Goodyear residents have a new place to gather – the public library. While you may find the idea of a library somewhat antiquated in the era of Facebook, Google and downloading books onto a Kindle, the modern library still holds a unique and vital role within the community.
Today’s public libraries have collections of useful information and resources for common use, provide educational programming, offer helpful community services and can expose you to our local history. Investment in civic spaces like libraries continues to be a significant component to creating sustainable communities while energizing the imagination and intellect of those young and old. |

Goodyear’s new library will be housed temporarily next to City Hall at 250 N. Litchfield Rd. in Room 185. Managed in partnership with the Maricopa County Library District, it will feature books, programming and computers. The City Center, sometime in 2012, will eventually be home to a permanent library location.
For those who would like to become more involved, check out Goodyear Friends of the Library, the non-profit organization leading the way to making your library a source of community pride. You can find out more about them at www.goodyearaz.gov/library
Stop by and explore what your new library offers and I encourage you to pick-up that great old classic you’ve wanted to read or the burning hot-seller you can’t seem to find. Share your experience with your family and excite them about reading. Your library will open during the month of Dr. Seuss’ 105th birthday, a legendary storyteller that almost certainly inspired many of us to start reading . . . Oh, The Places You’ll Go after a breakfast of Green Eggs and Ham.
See you soon at your new library!
