What we do
With the belief that the arts enhance our community’s quality of life, in 2006 the Goodyear City Council, approved both the establishment of an Arts and Culture Commission and a Percent-for-Art ordinance. The Arts & Culture Commission guides the city’s public art program and makes recommendations regarding projects and policy to the City Council and staff. This volunteer commission is committed to identifying and developing a common artistic and cultural personality for Goodyear that embraces, celebrates and unites all of our diverse histories, beliefs, cultures and aspirations. The commission makes recommendations regarding, but not limited to:
· Policies, priorities, and plans for promoting, advancing, and maintaining Public Art and the Visual and Performing Arts in Goodyear
· Allocation and budgeting of funds for Public Art through the Annual Public Art Project Plan
· The promotion of Arizona artists in City art projects by setting annual goals to be identified in the Annual Public Art Project Plan and approved by City Council
· Encourage citizen input and involvement in the design and selection of Public Art and Performing Arts
· Coordination with the private sector and other governmental agencies in promoting excellence in arts and culture as a tool for the encouragement of economic development, business relocation and tourism
· Organize and promote Public Art and the Visual and Performing Arts which celebrate the City and its unique cultural heritage
